The eagerly anticipated cricket carnival is only a few weeks away from commencing, and the Kolkata Knight Riders, two-time champions, are aiming for a successful season after implementing a few alterations. KKR has suggested that Rinku Singh should take over as captain for the IPL 2023 season, replacing Shreyas Iyer.
In the IPL mega auction 2022, the Kolkata Knight Riders spent a considerable sum of money to acquire Shreyas Iyer. The franchise entrusted him with the captaincy of their team, but he was unable to lead them to the playoffs.
Although KKR initially hinted at Rinku Singh replacing Shreyas Iyer as captain for the IPL 2023 season, they eventually abandoned the idea.
KKR shared a video of Rinku Singh batting in the nets and captioned it as “Our Captain,” which they later removed. While KKR is not currently considering Rinku Singh as their new captain, they may contemplate options like Russel, Narine, and Shakib Al Hassan to replace Iyer.
Due to severe back pain, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was unable to participate in the fourth test between India and Australia, and his back spasm continued to affect him, causing him to miss the ODI series as well.
Although the player is expected to join the KKR squad on March 28th, his condition will be closely monitored as he has been advised to rest. As a result, Shreyas will miss the initial games of IPL 2023, and the team is considering a more experienced candidate for the captaincy role.
