Kusal Mendis,N Dickwella and Gunathailka banned for breaching the Bubble

The Srilankan Cricket Board banned senior players Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathailka for one year from international cricket and 6 months from domestic cricket also imposed 10 million Sri Lankan rupees for breaching the covid-19 protocol during the tour of England last month.

The three player were roaming outside in the streets of Durham which was caught in camera and the three player were sent back home mid-way of the tour for breaching the protocol.

They also faced a disciplinary committee headed by a retired judge, who recommended two year ban for Gunathailka and Mendis and 18 months ban for N Dickwella.

However on Friday the Sri Lankan cricket board decided to ban them for one year from international cricket and 6 months from domestic circuit.As per the recommendations of the executive committee of the SLC, once the one-year ban gets completed, the trio will have to undergo a further ban of one year from international cricket – which will be a suspended sentence for two years. The three Sri Lankan players were also fined 10 million Sri Lankan Rupees and will also have to undergo a mandatory counselling as per the doctor recommended by the board.

The three charges that have been brought by the SLC are: “Putting in jeopardy the safety of players by breaching COVID-19 safety guidelines, including instructions of the team management.”Also breaking the team curfew of being in their hotel rooms by 10:30 pm and last but not the least was bringing disrepute to the country and cricket board.” The SLC executive committee has also recommended mandatory counselling under a doctor recommended by the board.
