Earlier this week, Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, secured their first victory in the 2023 Indian Premier League by defeating Delhi Capitals in an exhilarating match. After setting a target of 173 for their opponents to chase, Delhi quickly took down Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma in the 16th over of the game.
Mumbai was two runs short on the final ball, but Tim David played a clever grounded shot and took a double, securing victory for the team.
The Mumbai team faced a setback in the first innings when Suryakumar Yadav suffered an injury above his eye. However, Yadav’s bravery after his injury impressed MI’s head coach Mark Boucher. Post-match, Boucher revealed that despite his injury, Yadav insisted on batting at number 4.
“These are the type of characters you want in the dressing room,” Boucher said while addressing the Mumbai team post their win.
Yadav sustained his injury while attempting to catch a ball hit by Axar Patel at long-off in the 17th over. Nonetheless, Mumbai Indians finally got on the board with their first win of the season by taking down Delhi Capitals by six wickets.
