During a One Day International (ODI) match against Australia at North Sydney Oval, Pakistan veteran Nida Dar potentially avoided being given out due to a late withdrawal at the crease. In the 27th over of Pakistan’s run chase, Dar stepped away from a delivery by Tahlia McGrath that hit her stumps.
Umpire Claire Polosak signaled a dead ball and play resumed without protest from the Australian team. However, commentators questioned whether Dar had been given an extra chance at the crease.
Replays showed that Dar had looked up and saw McGrath entering her delivery stride but did not pull away until after the ball had been released. Dar was ultimately dismissed by Annabel Sutherland in the 35th over for 29 runs.
Pakistan fell 101 runs short of their target, and Australia won the match, completing a 3-0 whitewash. Earlier, Australian wicketkeeper Beth Mooney scored a career-best 133 runs to help the hosts register a total of 9-336, the fourth-highest team total in ODI history for Australia.
“I was always under the impression that when you were in your stance and tapped your bat down, you were ready to accept the delivery,” former Australian captain Rachael Haynes said on Fox Cricket.
