Nitish Rana Reverse sweep: Team India are currently squaring off against Sri Lanka on their home ground (Colombo) in the second match of the 3-match T20 series and all the odds were against them even before the players could hit the field. The Indian Contingent have been hit by CoronaVirus and more than 9 regular players of India’s starting XI have been ruled out of the last 2 T20 matches. It was Indian all rounder Krunal Pandya who contracted the virus first and the players who came in close contact with him had to be ruled out for safety precautions.

As a result, India were left with just 4 ‘Proper batsmen’ and they had no other options left but to use them all. As many as 4 players made their T20 debut for India today which is a rare feat indeed, but strange times like these ask for strange solutions.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The lack of experience was very evident in this Indian batting side. Apart from Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan, all the other batsmen tumult and fell apart and India could only manage to score a mere total of 132 runs, which is nowhere near a decent total. Captain Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 off 42, the highest among all Indian batsmen tonight.

However, debutant Nitish Rana left an immediate impact courtesy of his cheeky and smart play which got under the skin of the Sri Lankan players. On a certain delivery, while facing Wanindu Hasaranga, Nitish Rana went for a reverse hit and he took position even before the bowler could release the ball. The spinner was smart enough and he bowled towards the other end having realized that Nitish Rana was going for a switch-hit. However, Rana was smarter and he cunningly left the ball and the Umpire called it a wide. Moreover, the Sri Lankan wicket keeper totally missed the ball and it went behind all the way for a four.
Wanindu Hasaranga was furious both with the Umpire’s decision and with his wicketkeeper. Nitish Rana departed soon after making 9 runs but he surely got the better of Wanindu Hasaranga in that over.
