Not Dhoni, Kohli or Raina; Brett Lee names this player as GOAT of IPL

In a recent interview with Jio Cinema, former Australian pacer Brett Lee was asked about his choice for the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the Tata IPL. While cricket fans anticipated him to mention players like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, Lee surprised everyone by declaring leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as the GOAT of IPL.

Yuzvendra Chahal, the leg spinner from the Rajasthan Royals, is undoubtedly one of the most underrated cricketers in the modern era. He showcased exceptional performances during his tenure with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and has continued to impress with his skills while representing the Rajasthan Royals in the last two seasons.

During a ‘Q20s’ segment on Jio Cinema, the official digital broadcaster of IPL 2023, Brett Lee was posed with the question of naming the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the IPL. In response, the esteemed pacer confidently declared, “Yuzvendra Chahal is the GOAT of IPL.”

Adding to the discussion, the former Australian pacer emphasized, “Yuzi Chahal is the most underrated player of all time in the IPL.”

Yuzvendra Chahal’s remarkable performance in the IPL cannot be overlooked. With 145 IPL matches under his belt, he has secured an impressive tally of 187 wickets. Recently, he surpassed CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL. Chahal’s bowling average of 21.27 stands as the fifth-best in the cash-rich league, a remarkable achievement.

Despite being a part of the RCB side for six years and predominantly bowling on the batting-friendly wicket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Chahal maintains an excellent economy rate of 7.63. Furthermore, his consistency shines through as he has secured at least 18 wickets in every IPL edition since 2019.

Yuzvendra Chahal has consistently been underrated and often fails to receive due credit for his exceptional performances. He possesses a unique ability to take crucial wickets, which undoubtedly establishes him as the GOAT of the IPL.

While cricket experts typically mention renowned batsmen like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, or MS Dhoni as their choices for the GOAT of the IPL, Brett Lee pleasantly surprised cricket fans by selecting an underrated leg spinner.
