Indian cricket veteran Shikhar Dhawan recently responded to Cheteshwar Pujara’s Instagram post showcasing his practice session on September 27th. Currently, both players find themselves out of contention for selection in the Indian teams across various formats.
Pujara is presently immersed in domestic cricket and the County Championship, striving for a return to the Indian Test squad. Following his stint with Sussex in England, he recently returned to India. Now, the 35-year-old is diligently honing his skills in the nets, preparing for the impending Irani Trophy.
He granted fans a peek into his practice session by sharing a video on his Instagram account, accompanied by the caption: “Back to the grind! Gearing up for #IraniTrophy.”
In response, Shikhar Dhawan playfully urged Pujara to take it easy and allow the younger talents to have their opportunity, jesting, “Bhai bas kar youngster ko bhi khelne de ab. Irani se Tere liye Naani Trophy ho gayi hai (Bro, take it easy, give the youngsters some chance now).”
Dhawan, in a recent discussion about his future, disclosed that he hasn’t engaged in any conversations with the Indian selectors. He has been absent from the Indian 50-over setup since the ODI series against Bangladesh in December of the previous year. The ascent of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan over the past year has also compelled the selectors to look beyond the experienced batsman.
