Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has chosen Ishan Kishan as his preferred wicketkeeper-batter for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. As the major tournaments draw near, it has become crucial for the Indian squad to find a suitable candidate for the wicketkeeper-batter role. Given that the dependable wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is currently sidelined due to injury, Ganguly believes that Ishan Kishan can step into this role for the upcoming competitions.
During a recent interview, the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed, “Pant is undoubtedly the finest wicketkeeper in the nation, yet Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul are also strong contenders in the minds of Rohit and Rahul. Personally, I’m inclined towards Ishan Kishan due to his ability to change the game’s dynamics for any team. I’m confident that Dravid will consider him in his strategies.”
Discussing the team composition he envisions for these prestigious tournaments, the esteemed former Indian player stressed the importance of a well-balanced squad, comprising both experienced players and emerging talents. Furthermore, he highlighted that India’s coach Rahul Dravid has a plethora of options at his disposal and should concentrate on selecting the optimal playing eleven.
The legendary Indian cricketer added, “The ideal team should consist of seasoned players and individuals unburdened by past setbacks—players like Jaiswal, Varma, and Ishan Kishan. They possess the freedom to play fearless cricket. Rahul, Rohit, and the selection committee have numerous alternatives; their task is to recognize and assemble the finest eleven.”
It’s noteworthy that the Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to commence on August 30, followed by the World Cup 2023 on October 5. The inaugural match of this prestigious ICC event will feature a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.
