Pat Cummins, the celebrated captain of Australia’s World Cup-winning team, is poised to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
This marks Cummins’ debut as captain for an IPL franchise, taking over from Aiden Markram in the leadership role. Markram took on the captaincy of SRH after leading the franchise to victory in the inaugural SA20 edition.
Impressively, he retained the title in the recently concluded tournament, heightening expectations for another display of his leadership prowess in the high-stakes league. Nonetheless, SRH has swiftly transitioned to Cummins, hoping he will steer the team to their first trophy since 2016.
Cummins was acquired by SRH for a substantial sum of INR 20.5 crore after an intense bidding war involving MI, CSK, and RCB. It remains to be seen if the Australian ODI and Test captain can replicate his international success within the IPL arena.
Cummins will join the ranks of Australian captains at SRH, following in the footsteps of David Warner, whose leadership in 2016 secured the team’s maiden trophy by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the finals.
