Speculation has been rife about whether MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai Super Kings, will retire from the IPL after the 2023 season. However, Suresh Raina, a former CSK batter and now an expert on Jio Cinema, has provided some insight on the matter.
Raina recently had a conversation with Dhoni during the current IPL season, and he shared his thoughts on Dhoni’s retirement plans. During the ongoing IPL 2023, MS Dhoni met up with his former CSK teammate, Suresh Raina. According to Raina, Dhoni has no plans to retire from the IPL after the 2023 season.
During the league stage match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Suresh Raina was present in his capacity as a cricket expert. Raina is now a full-time expert and also provides commentary during IPL 2023. It was during this tournament that Raina last spoke to Dhoni.
Suresh Raina disclosed MS Dhoni’s conversation with him about retirement plans during an interview with Jio Cinema, stating, “After winning the trophy, I will play one more year.” However, Raina believes that retirement is entirely Dhoni’s decision, and he should continue playing for IPL or Indian cricket, as he still looks good and is batting well. Dhoni’s post-match mentoring sessions are also vital for the team’s younger players.
While Dhoni had earlier admitted to being in the final phase of his IPL career, rumors continue to circulate about his retirement from the league. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 and now serves as a finisher for the CSK team, facing very few deliveries and going for big hits whenever possible. He hit consecutive sixes against Mark Wood in a match against Lucknow Super Giants and repeated the feat against Sam Curran in a game against Punjab Kings.
