Suresh Raina, the former batsman of Team India, is gearing up for the Lanka Premier League 2023 Auction, where he will be up for bidding. Scheduled for June 14, the auction will witness the participation of more than 500 players, including 140 cricketers from overseas, all eager to demonstrate their skills and impress the Sri Lankan audience.
From 31 July to 22 August 2023, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League. This exciting tournament will showcase the talents of five teams: Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Jaffna Kings, Kandy Falcons, and Galle Gladiators.
According to reports, Suresh Raina has been enlisted for the upcoming auction on June 14, with a base price of USD 50,000. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has released a list of international and domestic cricketers set to be auctioned, and Raina is among them.
Raina, who previously played for the Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is known for his remarkable batting skills. Having retired from all forms of cricket in September 2022, he was last seen participating in the Legends League Cricket in March of this year.
During his IPL career, Raina played 205 matches and scored over 5,500 runs, including an unbeaten century. He holds the distinction of being the first Indian cricketer to achieve a century across all three formats of the game. Raina was also a vital component of the Indian limited-overs team for numerous years.
With nearly 8,000 runs in international cricket, Raina concluded his career on a high note, playing a crucial role in Team India’s victorious campaigns in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. In the history of the IPL, Raina ranks sixth in the list of all-time leading run scorers.
Before the Lanka Premier League 2023 auction, LPL franchises have the opportunity to directly sign two local and two overseas players for their squads. Additionally, each franchise can select 14 local players and six overseas players to complete their respective teams.
