This is why MS Dhoni was appointed as Team India’s mentor ! BCCI President Sourav Ganguly makes big revelation

It is a known fact now that BCCI has appointed former Team India captain MS Dhoni as the mentor for India in the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup. BCCI honorary secretary announced the unanimous decision of appointing the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman in the same press conference in which he announced India’s squad for the much awaited competition.

However, the actual reason for MS Dhoni’s appointment was unknown to the masses until now. But BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has now revealed the Real season why MS Dhoni was appointed as the mentor.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Dada said that Dhoni’s achievements as a captain in the shortest format of the game is enormous. He has won major trophies in T20 with both the Indian National team and with IPL Franchise Chennai Super Kings. His experience will this be extremely beneficial to the Indian side that last won a major ICC trophy back in 2013 when MS Dhoni was still the captain.

Sourav Ganguly explained, “It’s just to help the side in the World Cup. He has a good record in the T20 format for India and the Chennai Super Kings. There has been a lot of thought behind it. We discussed a lot and then decided to have him on board. We haven’t won an ICC trophy since 2013.”

“Remember Australia had Steve Waugh in a similar role when they drew the Ashes 2-2 in England the last time. The presence of such heavyweights in big-ticket events always helps,” the BCCI chief added.

As mentioned by Sourav Ganguly, this is not the first time that a former player is being appointed as a national team’s mentor. Australia have done it before with Steve Waugh. But that was for a test series (the ashes). MS Dhoni will still be the first cricketer to be appointed as a mentor of a national team in an ICC tournament.
