Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag has made a sensational revelation regarding former coach Greg Chappell of the Indian cricket team. This disclosure by Virender Sehwag will leave everyone astonished.
Virender Sehwag has accused former coach Greg Chappell of showing favoritism towards his preferred players and adopting a biased approach. He has also alleged that Greg Chappell shattered his dreams of captaincy and showed him the way out of the Indian team.
In an interview with Sports Next, Virender Sehwag stated, “As soon as Greg Chappell became the coach of the Indian cricket team, the first thing he said was that Virender Sehwag would be the captain of Team India. However, after two months, it turned out that forget captaincy, I was shown the way out of the Indian team. Whether it was an Indian coach or a foreign coach, everyone had their favorite players.”
“Some players thought that if a foreign coach came, he wouldn’t show favoritism, but that was not the case. Even foreign coaches have their preferred players. When foreign coaches come, whether it’s Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, or Laxman, they also have their favorites.” Speaking about Greg Chappell, his coaching tenure was surrounded by controversy. There were reports of significant disputes between him and Sourav Ganguly.
Let me tell you that Virender Sehwag scored 8,586 runs in 104 Test matches with an average of 49.34, including 23 centuries and 32 half-centuries. His highest score was 319. In ODIs, Sehwag scored 8,273 runs in 251 matches, including 15 centuries and 38 half-centuries. His best score in this format was 219.
Additionally, he scored 394 runs in 19 T20 matches, with a highest score of 68. Virender Sehwag had a habit of unsettling the best of bowlers by disturbing their line and length. In the history of Indian cricket, there have been several batsmen who came and went, but finding a batsman like Sehwag is difficult.
He would launch an attack on the opposition bowlers from the very first ball of the match. When Sehwag walked onto the crease, the rival bowlers would fear him, and he wouldn’t hesitate to send even a slightly loose ball beyond the boundary line.
