Washington Sundar ruled out of tournament with hamstring injury

On Thursday (April 27), Sunrisers Hyderabad experienced a major setback in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 season, which had already been going poorly for them. This was due to the fact that their renowned Indian all-rounder, Washington Sundar, was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a hamstring injury. The franchise officially announced the news of Sundar’s departure from the tournament via Twitter on Thursday morning.

The Orange Army’s 23-year-old standout all-rounder was acquired for Rs 8.75 crore during the 2022 mega auction. Being a significant part of the SRH team, the all-rounder was instrumental in achieving vital breakthroughs with the bat and contributed effectively towards the lower order.

Throughout the current season, Sundar participated in seven matches, claiming three wickets while conceding 146 runs at an economy rate of 8.26. In addition, he scored 60 runs, with a highest score of 24 and an average of 15 runs.

In SRH’s prior match against the Delhi Capitals, Sundar put on an outstanding performance, taking three wickets. He was a key player for the team, making valuable contributions with the bat and lower-order support. The franchise has not yet revealed who will replace him.

Unfortunately, Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently at the bottom of the points table, having only won two out of their last five games. Sundar’s absence is a significant setback for the team, as they now have only four points. Their next match is against the Delhi Capitals, who are also struggling to avoid relegation, on Saturday.
