WATCH : 3rd umpire rules not out despite UltraEdge during Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match

In the second T20I match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Bangladesh showcased resilience to even the series after a closely contested first match. The game followed its usual trajectory in the first innings, with Sri Lanka posting a total of 165 runs.

However, a significant moment unfolded during the powerplay phase of the second innings, adding an unexpected twist to the encounter. In the fourth over, Binura Fernando delivered a back-of-a-length ball to Soumya Sarkar, who attempted a pull shot but failed to make contact, resulting in an under edge to the wicketkeeper.

The on-field umpire raised his finger to signal out, but following the non-striker’s suggestion, Soumya opted for a review. The TV umpire, Masadur Rahman Mukul, scrutinized the Ultraedge footage, which displayed a spike in the graph coinciding with the ball brushing the inside edge of the bat.

However, the third umpire deemed that the edge occurred after the ball had passed the bat’s edge by a single frame. Consequently, he instructed the on-field umpire, SIS Saikat, to reverse the original decision.

The sudden reversal surprised the Sri Lankan team, including players such as Angelo Mathews, Maheesh Theekshana, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Kusal Mendis, who surrounded the umpire, expressing their disbelief and frustration. Despite their protests, the third umpire’s decision stood, leaving the Sri Lankan players with no choice but to continue the game.
