The South Africa Champions extended their dominant run in the World Championship of Legends 2025 with a commanding 10-wicket victory over hosts England Champions in Leicester on Thursday.
Continuing their unbeaten streak, the Proteas were led by a masterful innings from skipper AB de Villiers, who finished on an explosive 116* off just 51 balls. Chasing a target of 153, the South Africans made light work of the total, wrapping up the match in just 12.2 overs in what was a completely one-sided affair.
The South African bowling attack laid the foundation for the win by restricting England Champions to a modest 152/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Leg-spinner Imran Tahir stood out with economical figures of 2/17, while Wayne Parnell chipped in with two wickets of his own. Their disciplined bowling kept the English batters in check throughout the innings, preventing them from ever gaining any real momentum.
Opening the chase alongside Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers was in sublime touch from the outset. He delighted the crowd with a blistering knock that saw him reach his century in just 41 deliveries.
The innings was a nostalgic display of vintage AB, full of his signature innovation, placement, and power-hitting. The partnership with Amla ensured that the Proteas never looked under pressure, maintaining control throughout the chase.
One of the standout moments came shortly after de Villiers reached his century. Facing Stuart Meaker, he nonchalantly dispatched a full toss no-ball to the fine leg boundary with a shot that stirred memories of his prime. Despite the ball being aimed at his chest, de Villiers casually moved his head aside and guided the ball to the fence, showcasing both composure and brilliance.

Social media erupted in admiration, especially after de Villiers recreated a shot reminiscent of one he played in the IPL 2019 against Mohammed Shami. Sending a similar delivery over the square leg fence with a no-look flick, he reminded everyone why he is affectionately called “Mr. 360.” Fans and cricket pundits alike were left in awe of his enduring class and unmatched shot-making ability.
