Following New Zealand’s impressive total of 224/7, largely driven by Finn Allen’s splendid century, Pakistan found themselves in need of a robust start. Unfortunately, the early loss of Saim Ayub for 10 shifted the responsibility to Rizwan and Babar Azam.
At 49/1 in 5.4 overs, Pakistan had to chase down 176 more runs from 86 balls. In a crucial moment, Rizwan played a ball from Matt Henry towards the on-side.
However, as he hit the ball on the backfoot, he lost his balance and almost tripped, resulting in the loss of his bat. The ball was headed between deep midwicket and long-on, presenting an opportunity for Rizwan to complete a couple. Without his bat, he knew he had to stretch extra to reach the crease.
Unable to use the bat to make the crease, Rizwan resorted to touching the crease at the non-striker end with his hand. He quickly turned around and sprinted for the second run.

A strong throw forced Rizwan to dive. Upon reviewing the replay, broadcasters highlighted that Rizwan was indeed guilty of a short run, as his gloves touched the ground a couple of inches before reaching the crease.
