Pakistan staged an impressive recovery in Rawalpindi, climbing from a precarious 177/7 to post a total of 344 all out, seizing a 77-run first-innings lead on Day 2 of the third and final Test against England.
Saud Shakeel was the anchor of this revival, crafting a steady 134 with only five boundaries. He found valuable support from spin partners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan, who both contributed 40-plus runs, putting Pakistan in a strong position in the series decider.
However, the recovery did not come without its share of challenges, especially for Sajid, who endured a painful self-inflicted blow toward the end of his innings.
While unbeaten on 37 off 31 balls, Sajid attempted a lap shot off Rehan Ahmed, aiming to place it between the wicketkeeper and fine-leg. But he made his move too early, allowing Ahmed to adjust the length just short of off-stump.
Sajid committed to the shot, but the ball deflected off the edge, hitting him squarely on the right cheek. He immediately removed his helmet to reveal the injury, as the physio rushed onto the field to apply ice and ointment.
By the end of the treatment, Sajid’s shirt was stained with streaks of blood, prompting a jersey change in the middle of the ground to a chorus of cheers from the crowd.
