WATCH : Controversial non-striker’s end run-out decision leaves Overton frustrated with umpire

England were put on the back foot as Marco Jansen’s relentless opening spell reduced them to 37/3 within the powerplay. Joe Root, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer all failed to build on their starts, leaving England with a modest total of 179.

However, a couple of quick wickets from Archer early on sparked a glimmer of hope for England in what had otherwise been a disappointing campaign.

Despite that, a dominant partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen steered South Africa through with minimal issues, even amid an umpiring controversy that left Overton frustrated.

In the 18th over, Overton delivered a fuller ball to Klaasen, who drove it down the line. The bowler attempted to block the ball with his feet, but it ricocheted onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end. An appeal was made, and the decision was referred upstairs.

After reviewing the footage, the ultraedge showed a flat line, providing no conclusive evidence. As a result, umpire SS Saikat ruled it “Not Out.” However, Overton appeared visibly displeased with the decision, likely questioning the accuracy of the technology. His argument with the on-field umpires triggered another wave of debate on Twitter.
