After Bangladesh chose to bat first, Sri Lanka lost the early wicket of Kusal Perera. However, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis steadied the innings, accumulating 52 runs in the initial powerplay. Bangladesh fought back by dismissing both well-set batsmen within eight balls.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka then contributed briskly, pushing Sri Lanka to 131/3 in 24 overs. Subsequently, Bangladesh dismissed Samarawickrama and Angelo Matthews, with Matthews being timed out.
However, Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva’s strong partnership propelled Sri Lanka past 200 in the 37th over. Asalanka scored a century, helping Sri Lanka post 279 runs on the board.
In their chase of 280 on a favorable pitch, Bangladesh got off to a positive start, scoring 57 runs in the first 10 overs but lost both openers. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan then partnered to rebuild, adding 66 runs in the next 10 overs. They both reached their half-centuries, taking Bangladesh past 200 in 30 overs.

However, Angelo Matthews dismissed both Shanto (90) and Shakib (82) in successive overs, giving Sri Lanka hope. Despite losing wickets, Bangladesh eventually reached the target with three wickets in hand in 41.1 overs. With their second victory in the tournament, Bangladesh not only eliminated Sri Lanka from the World Cup but also kept their hopes alive for qualifying in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
