Winning the toss and opting to bowl first worked in favor of the Australian side as both their pacers and spinners controlled the game expertly, keeping the Bangladesh batsmen in check.
However, Towhid Hridoy attempted to fight back against the formidable Aussies, hitting consecutive sixes off Marcus Stoinis in the 17th over. But Pat Cummins returned for his final spell and claimed a sensational hat-trick, ultimately restricting Bangladesh to 140/8 in their 20 overs.
In the 18th over, after conceding just five runs from the first four balls, Cummins delivered a short ball outside off, which Mahmadullah attempted to pull but only managed to chop onto his stumps.
On the very next delivery, he bowled a similar length, and Sheikh Mahedi Hasan’s uppercut found Adam Zampa’s hands at third man. Cummins then came back for his fourth over and dismissed the well-set Towhid Hridoy with a cleverly disguised slower bouncer, which Hridoy tried to ramp but ended up hitting straight to short fine leg, completing his hat-trick.
