In the fourth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, between Sri Lanka and South Africa, the Lions won the toss and chose to field first.

In the early stages of the game, Proteas’ captain, Temba Bavuma, was dismissed in the second over, falling victim to a well-placed delivery targeting his leg stump. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen then took charge of South Africa’s batting, guiding them past the 100-run milestone.

During the 11th over, Matheesha Pathirana stepped up to bowl, and just before delivering his first ball, the crowd erupted into chants of “Dhoni-Dhoni.” These chants caught Pathirana’s attention, evoking strong emotions among Chennai Super Kings (CSK) supporters in the stadium.

Pathirana is currently a part of the CSK team in the Indian Premier League, captained by MS Dhoni, and the enthusiastic “Yellove” support was evident in full force to cheer him on.

Twitter was quick to react to this unexpected display of support from Indian fans, as they called out Dhoni’s name during Pathirana’s over, reviving CSK fan sentiments during Sri Lanka’s opening World Cup match against South Africa.
