Winning the toss, Hobart Hurricanes Women opted to field first in the morning conditions at Bellerive Oval. Zoe Cooke and Chloe Tryon wasted no time in making an impact, removing Alyssa Healy and Sarah Bryce cheaply within the powerplay.
Despite the early setbacks, Ellyse Perry steadied the ship, keeping the scoreboard ticking through the middle overs with valuable contributions from Ashleigh Gardner and Hollie Armitage.
Perry passed the 80-run mark towards the end of the innings, but what followed was an extraordinary moment that almost cost Hobart a crucial wicket.
In the third ball of the final over, Mathilda Carmichael played a dab towards the right of the short third fielder off a length delivery from Heather Graham. Perry, looking for a quick single, casually made her way down the pitch.
However, keeper Lizelle Lee, who gathered the ball and quickly removed the bails, didn’t immediately appeal, seemingly thinking Perry had made her ground.
Bizarre.

The commentators were left bewildered by Lee’s lack of urgency, and replays showed that Perry was, in fact, marginally short of her ground. What should have been a crucial wicket for Hobart turned into a costly error, allowing Perry to continue.
In the end, the Hurricanes managed to restrict the Sixers to 155 in the first innings, but the missed opportunity left a lingering sense of what might have been.
