WATCH : Fans wave of salutes and bows commend Dean Elgar’s tenacity in Centurion

After concluding Day 2 with an impressive unbeaten score of 140, the former South African captain resumed his innings on Day 3 with similar determination. Initially showing caution in the morning conditions, Elgar elegantly maneuvered his shots to swiftly cross the 150-run milestone.

Halfway through the session, it seemed inevitable that he would achieve a double century until a minor mistake led to his dismissal at the hands of Shardul Thakur in the 95th over.

In a regrettable moment, the 36-year-old left his faint glove exposed while attempting to deal with a back-of-length delivery outside the leg stump, resulting in a catch to wicketkeeper KL Rahul on the fifth delivery of the 95th over.

Despite the option to review the decision, the Ultraedge technology confirmed his dismissal. Although Elgar displayed a visible expression of disappointment, it was soon overshadowed by a wave of applause from the crowd, acknowledging the brilliance of his innings.

Regardless of nationality, spectators rose to their feet in appreciation as the seasoned player raised his bat and walked off the field.
