WATCH : Giant Jack Edwards defies the laws of physics with an incredible flying catch at point

The Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers faced off at Bellerive Oval on Tuesday, both vying for a direct spot in the final. The loser would have to face another qualifying game against the loser of the Knockout between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars.

The Hurricanes, batting first, got off to an explosive start. Mitchell Owen smashed 36 runs off just 15 balls, including three boundaries and three sixes. Despite his early departure, the visitors’ troubles didn’t end, with the experienced and dynamic Matthew Wade walking in next, hoping to take advantage of the flat pitch.

However, Wade’s stay at the crease ended in an unlikely fashion, with his dismissal being the result of an extraordinary fielding effort.

Wade had scored just four runs off six balls when he decided to take on debutant Mitchell Perry in the seventh over. Perry’s delivery, wide and short, invited the attack, and Wade launched into a shot, aiming to find the gap. But at backward point, Chris Edwards had other ideas.

The towering fielder, standing at 194cm, moved quickly and leapt to his right, fully extending one arm above his head. Miraculously, he stuck the catch, and the ball stayed in his hand even as he landed, leaving Wade and the spectators in disbelief.

Social media erupted, with fans comparing the catch to a “Rhode-esque” moment and urging for it to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame for its incredible beauty and athleticism.
