WATCH : Gill-Kishan make merry while agonized Phillips limps off with injury

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s dramatic slump with the bat continued at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium against Gujarat Titans, with the hosts struggling at 64/3 at the halfway stage of their innings after being asked to bat first.

None of their explosive top-order batsmen managed to make a significant impact, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen were content to take their time, with the sluggish and sticky pitch playing a role in their cautious approach.

In what has been a dismal season for SRH, even their only bit of good news during this phase came with an unfortunate twist and significant pain.

Kishan faced Prasidh Krishna in the final over of the powerplay and calmly guided a short, wide delivery to the offside for a quick single. Glenn Phillips, noticing the run-out opportunity, rushed in from midwicket and, in one swift motion, gathered the ball and aimed to throw it sidearm at the stumps.

The throw missed by a wide margin, but it was the least of the team’s worries. As Phillips released the ball, he lost his balance and collapsed to the ground, visibly in pain.

The Kiwi immediately called for the physios, who attended to him on the field. Meanwhile, GT captain Shubman Gill found a moment to chat with his fellow countryman Kishan, standing with his arm over Gill’s shoulder.

This interaction, though, ignited a storm on Twitter, as fans were upset, especially since Phillips had to leave the field, potentially leaving his team without an Impact Player option.
