Afghanistan and Dubai Capitals all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has criticized Desert Vipers’ bowler Mohammad Amir for a disrespectful gesture he made after taking Naib’s wicket in the ILT20 final on Sunday, February 9, in Dubai.
Naib expressed his disapproval, warning Amir that such actions would lead to a loss of respect from others if he continued to behave in this manner and failed to show respect for fellow players.
During the match, Amir bowled a low full-toss to Naib, who missed the shot completely, with the ball striking his pad on the line. Naib attempted to review the decision, but ultimately had to walk off after the decision was upheld. As Naib made his way back to the dressing room, Amir tried to give him an aggressive send-off.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Gulbadin Naib stated:
“I always say cricket is a gentleman’s game. You should respect each other. If you don’t show respect, no one will respect you either. He knows how much respect he earned with that act. As a cricketer and as a human being, you should respect everyone.”
The Afghanistan all-rounder also took a moment to thank his fans for their unwavering support and shared his optimism for Afghanistan’s upcoming campaign in the Champions Trophy. Naib expressed hope for his team’s success, emphasizing their determination to play positive cricket.
