In the seventeenth encounter of the ICC World Cup, India squared off against Bangladesh in Pune. The Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first. The Bangladeshi openers faced a formidable Indian bowling attack and managed to negotiate the new ball without any early setbacks.
Despite not losing any wickets, they could only amass a modest total of 37 runs at the conclusion of the initial 8 overs. It was during the ninth over of the innings, when Hardik Pandya replaced Jasprit Bumrah, that things took a turn for the worse for him and the Indian team.
Following a dot ball on the first delivery of his spell, Pandya was struck for a boundary by Litton Das. On the third ball, Pandya delivered a fuller length delivery, which the Bangladeshi opener eagerly drove down the ground.
While attempting to stop the ball with his right foot, Gujarat Titans’ captain lost his balance, causing him to awkwardly land on his left ankle, bearing his full body weight. Pandya tried to shake off the discomfort and continue, but it became evident that he was struggling.

Eventually, the physiotherapist rushed onto the field to assess him. After receiving some treatment, Pandya rose to his feet to test his ability to bowl, but unfortunately, he was limping during this test and appeared unfit to continue. Consequently, he left the field, nursing the ankle injury, and the responsibility of completing the over was handed to Virat Kohli.
