WATCH : Healy shows frustration after being reminded of her infamous dropped catch in the World Cup semi-final

The Hobart Hurricanes cruised to a comfortable six-wicket win over the Sydney Sixers at the North Sydney Oval on Thursday, climbing to the top of the table with two wins in two and an impressive net run rate of 0.923. Hayley Silver-Holmes starred with the ball, dismantling the Sixers’ middle order by removing Amelie Kerr, Ashleigh Gardner, and Alyssa Healy — all in a single over — to restrict the hosts to a modest 152/9. In reply, an explosive 95-run opening partnership between Lizelle Lee and Danni Wyatt-Hodge all but sealed the deal for the Hurricanes.

The match also marked the much-anticipated return of Australian skipper Alyssa Healy, who was playing her first game since the Women’s World Cup semi-final against India on October 30 — a night when Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 had powered India to a historic chase. However, Healy’s comeback in Sydney took an ironic turn, as the ghosts of Navi Mumbai came back to haunt her once again.

In the 12th over of the chase, half-centurion Lee miscued a shot off Lauren Cheatle, sending the ball high into the air. Healy called for it early, positioning herself confidently under the descending ball. But a late swing caused by the breeze forced her to adjust awkwardly, and though she managed to complete the catch this time, it brought back vivid memories of her fateful drop in the semi-final — an eerily similar moment when Rodrigues was on 83 and India were still far from victory.

Unlike that night in Navi Mumbai, the ball didn’t slip through her gloves, but the resemblance was too striking to ignore. Realizing it, Healy reacted with a mix of relief and frustration, tossing the ball away and sharing a wry smile as her teammates laughed and congratulated her.

For the Hurricanes, though, the win was all business — another dominant display in what’s shaping up to be a commanding season.
