WATCH : Iyer’s cheeky smile as he notifies umpire of wrong byes call

In the thrilling cricket match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, India showcased an outstanding batting performance. Despite being put into bat, India’s Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli led the charge with brilliant innings of 92 and 88 runs, respectively.

Shreyas Iyer, who had faced criticism for his World Cup performances, silenced his critics with a scintillating knock of 82 runs from just 56 balls. These performances helped the Indian team amass a formidable total of 357 runs.

During Iyer’s explosive batting display, there was a noteworthy incident involving the umpire, Chris Brown. In the 45th over’s penultimate ball, Iyer attempted to guide Maheesh Theekshana’s yorker towards the left of the wicket-keeper.

It seemed as though he missed the ball with his bat, and the ball raced away for four byes behind the keeper. The umpire initially signaled four byes, believing the ball hadn’t touched Iyer’s bat.

However, Iyer, with a mischievous smile, promptly informed the umpire that he had indeed made contact with the ball. When Iyer took a single and switched ends, Brown raised his hand in apology to the Indian batsman for his earlier mistake.
