WATCH : Joe Root was not only dismissed but left thoroughly embarrassed

In the match between England and the Netherlands in Pune, England made the choice to bat first. They started aggressively, but Jonny Bairstow was dismissed early. Despite the setback, Dawid Malan and Joe Root showcased their batting prowess and maintained a healthy run rate.

However, just when things were looking promising, Root, who has been struggling in the World Cup, had an uncharacteristic dismissal that created a buzz on social media.

In the 21st over, Root attempted to replicate a boundary he had scored with a reverse scoop earlier in the innings. He positioned himself sideways with his feet apart and aimed to play a cheeky shot against Logan van Beek’s good-length delivery at the stumps.

However, he ended up in an awkward stance, and the ball didn’t bounce as he had anticipated. Consequently, van Beek’s delivery sneaked through Root’s legs after making contact with his thigh pad and went on to hit the stumps.

The comical image of Root being dismissed with the ball passing between his legs while attempting a reverse scoop quickly sparked a flurry of reactions on Twitter.
