Pakistan captain Shaan Masood won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that initially backfired when Jack Leach dismissed Abdullah Shafique early, leaving Pakistan at 19/3.
However, debutant Kamran Ghulam and Saim Ayub steadied the innings with a 65-run partnership before lunch.
After the break, they adopted a more aggressive approach, with Ayub reaching his fifty off 97 balls and Ghulam following suit, adding to a 149-run stand before Ayub fell to Matthew Potts, leaving Pakistan at 173/3 by tea.
After tea, Saud Shakeel was dismissed cheaply, but Ghulam continued to shine, helping Pakistan to 178/4 after 62 overs. Ghulam eventually scored a brilliant century off 192 balls, putting Pakistan in a commanding position.
The highlight came in the 74th over when Joe Root bowled a flighted delivery outside off stump, and Kamran Ghulam, dropping to one knee, slog-swept it over mid-on for a boundary.
Filled with emotion, he celebrated his century as the crowd and his teammates rose in a standing ovation. Ghulam punched the air, removed his helmet, and kissed the ground before embracing Mohammad Rizwan.

The moment was made even more poignant as cameras captured his father, tearfully joyful, while social media erupted with fans celebrating Ghulam’s remarkable achievement.
