On Wednesday, Rajasthan Royals seemed to be in complete command as they returned to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. They limited the Lucknow Super Giants to 154/7 and then went on to score 47 runs without losing a wicket during the powerplay.
However, the Lucknow Super Giants, who were struggling, almost suffered a further setback in the fifth over when their new-ball bowler Yudhvir Singh suffered a nasty ankle twist after delivering the second ball of his over.
The young and upcoming Yashasvi Jaiswal faced the right-arm quick and was met with an accurate full-ball that bordered on yorker length, slightly outside the stumps. Jaiswal, anticipating the bowler’s intention, dug deep into his crease and hit a powerful drive straight down the pitch.
Unfortunately, the ball was caught by Yudhvir with an outstretched right hand off the surface. Yudhvir, not content with just his impressive fielding, immediately threw the ball back to where it came from, signaling his intentions to the inexperienced Jaiswal.
However, he paid a heavy price for his actions. Before the ball could even leave his hand, Yudhvir suddenly collapsed to the ground in excruciating pain, twisting his left ankle in the process. The replay showed that Yudhvir was still in his follow-through when the sudden jerk of his body put too much pressure on his improperly grounded left ankle, causing it to twist dangerously. The physios were immediately called to the pitch to attend to Yudhvir.
