WATCH : Khawaja channels ‘Australian mindset’ to make up for dropped sitter in style

India found themselves in a tough spot early in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener at Perth Stadium, with the team reduced to 51/4 by Lunch.

The pitch offered plenty of grass and bounce, which continued to trouble the Indian batters after the break. Despite spirited contributions from Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy, the collapse persisted, and Nitish found himself at the crease with Mohammed Siraj, attempting to salvage some vital runs.

Although Nitish couldn’t quite achieve that, he was given a second chance to make amends.

After Bumrah’s dismissal on the final ball of the 49th over, Nitish added to his 35 with a solid drive through the covers for two off Cummins. The Australian captain responded with a short ball, which Nitish attempted to hoick but only managed to send it looping towards short midwicket.

Usman Khawaja was in position to take the catch, but the sun directly in his eyes caused the Kookaburra to slip out of his hands. Nitish took advantage, powering the ball down the ground, and his confidence grew.

However, another short delivery saw him swing again, sending the ball farther this time. Khawaja, sprinting backwards while glancing over his shoulder, managed to make a brilliant catch, ending India’s innings at 150.Twitter was quick to praise Khawaja for his determination and skill in completing the catch.
