WATCH : KL Rahul gets injured as teammates’ throw hits his elbow

On April 19th, the IPL 2023 match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants was held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. During the game, LSG captain KL Rahul suffered an injury when a throw from his teammate hit his right elbow, causing him significant pain.

Meanwhile, the opening pair of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave Rajasthan Royals an excellent start, preventing the bowlers from taking any wickets in the first 10 overs. Despite their efforts, Lucknow Super Giants were unable to get any breakthroughs as the RR franchise scored 73-0 by the end of the 10th over.

During Rajasthan Royals’ innings, the Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper was determined to take some wickets, and he brought in experienced leg spinner Amit Mishra to bowl the 11th over. Mishra delivered a full ball just outside the off stump to Jos Buttler on the second delivery of the over.

As Jos Buttler attempted a reverse sweep, he was tricked by a googly that struck his pads and then ricocheted towards the short fine leg fielder. Yashasvi Jaiswal took advantage of the opportunity and made a quick run, but the fielder attempted a run-out at the non-striker’s end by throwing the ball.

During this play, Jos Buttler had already completed the run, and the ball was stopped by a fielder at long off. The fielder threw the ball back casually, unintentionally hitting KL Rahul, who was walking towards his fielding position and was unaware of the throw coming in his direction. The ball struck Rahul’s right elbow, causing him injury.

As the ball struck KL Rahul’s elbow, he appeared to be in significant pain. Amit Mishra and other Lucknow Super Giants’ fielders surrounded him to offer assistance. The physio was immediately called onto the field, and with his help, the LSG skipper was able to continue leading his team, as the injury was not serious.

Ultimately, Lucknow Super Giants successfully defended their total in the RR vs LSG game. Rajasthan Royals could only manage to score 144 runs in their 20 overs on the slow Jaipur wicket, falling short by 10 runs.

During the post-match chat, KL Rahul talked about his injury and humorously remarked, “I got hit by a throw from one of my own teammates, so maybe I’m doing something wrong as a captain.”
