Currently taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23, with both teams currently maintaining a balanced position in the game. Australia has successfully formed partnerships, but India has made a comeback by taking timely wickets.
The Indian team’s fielders, with KL Rahul being notable, have worked in tandem with their bowlers to contribute positively to their performance. In the first inning, Rahul has made two impressive catches. The first catch was taken while fielding in the slips, where he managed to grab a travelling ball.
The second catch was a stunner taken at point, resulting in the dismissal of the well-established Australian batsman, Usman Khawaja. Khawaja attempted to execute a reverse sweep off Ravindra Jadeja, sending the ball flying through the air. Although Khawaja’s timing was good, his placement was not enough to evade Rahul’s swift catch.
While positioned closer to cover than point, Rahul displayed an impressive athletic feat by jumping towards his right and stretching his right hand to catch the ball in mid-air. This resulted in Khawaja dropping down to his knees in disbelief at the remarkable catch.
Ravindra Jadeja was able to take his first wicket of the match with this catch. Meanwhile, R Ashwin has continued to dominate, causing destruction among the Australian batters. Within three deliveries, Ashwin dismissed Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, and proceeded to send Alex Carey back to the pavilion for a low score.
The experienced off-spinner was able to get the wicketkeeper-batsman out by having him caught at first slip. David Warner and Travis Head were both dismissed by Mohammed Shami, who took the other two wickets in the match.
