WATCH : Mandhana-Shafali tag team sends Amy Jones back to the hut

Following India’s formidable first-innings total of 428 runs at the DY Patil Sports Academy in the Test match against England, the latter found themselves in trouble as Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight collectively contributed just 21 runs before returning to the pavilion.

India further asserted their dominance when Tammy Beaumont’s slow 35-ball 11 ended with a run-out, and Danielle Wyatt fell victim to Deepti Sharma’s bowling. As Natalie Sciver-Brunt approached another Test fifty, she was joined by Jones at the crease.

Jones seemed in form, striking two boundaries off Sneh Rana in an over, aiming to solidify England’s position. However, in an unusual turn, India secured another breakthrough in the 30th over. Jones anticipated Deepti’s short delivery and shifted onto her back foot to play through the on-side.

Despite making decent contact, she hit the ball directly to Mandhana, fielding at forward short leg. The ball ricocheted off the Indian opener’s helmet, finding its way to Shafali at leg slip, who swiftly grasped the opportunity.

As the Indian players celebrated the wicket, the Twitterati swiftly praised the collaborative effort of India’s opening pair in effecting this unexpected dismissal.
