Mitchell Starc delivered a brilliant delivery to dismiss Shubman Gill, leaving the Indian batsman with no chance. The ball, which swung late, was a full-length delivery that began around the fourth stump line before swinging sharply back in.
Gill, who had looked in good touch, stepped forward to drive but left a gap between bat and pad. The ball found its way through, shattering the middle stump and sending Gill back to the pavilion for 28 off 30 balls, with three boundaries to his name.
This was India’s fourth wicket of the innings, and Starc’s first. He had already been a nightmare for the Indian batters in the first innings, taking 6 wickets and bundling India out for just 180 runs.
At the close of play on Day 2, India are struggling on 128 runs, having lost 5 wickets. Despite a strong start, their openers were dismissed early, and Virat Kohli, expected to play a key knock, was dismissed by Scott Boland.
Shubman Gill fell to a beauty from Mitchell Starc, followed by the dismissal of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who had earlier survived a leg-before decision on a no-ball.
