On his full-time county captaincy debut for Sussex against Durham in the second division of the County Championship at Hove on Friday, Cheteshwar Pujara scored a century.
Pujara came in at number four when Sussex was at 44 for two in the 10th over, and hit 13 boundaries and one maximum to reach his 133-ball hundred during the third session of the first innings on day 2.
Pujara has a total of 57 tons in First-Class cricket over his 246-match career, and has scored over 18000 runs in the format with an average above 51. In the 67th over, Pujara was dismissed on 115 by Ben Raine, who trapped him in front for lbw, reducing Sussex to 246/7.
Pujara is in his second season with Sussex in the English First-Class tournament. In 2022, he was dropped from the Indian Test squad but bounced back by amassing 1094 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 109.40.
During that season, he hit five centuries. Additionally, he played for the team in the Royal London One-Day Cup, scoring 624 runs in nine innings. He achieved three centuries and two fifties in that tournament.
