Punjab’s rising batting talent, Nikhil Chaudhary, delivered an impressive six with a stunning shot over gully during the Big Bash League clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars at Bellerive Oval on December 28.
The remarkable shot unfolded in the 17th over of Hobart Hurricanes’ innings. Rauf pitched a full-length ball outside off, prompting Chaudhary to create space and expertly guide it over deep backward point, leaving the bowler astounded by the explosive stroke.
However, Rauf gained redemption as Chaudhary was caught by Joel Paris at mid-off within the same over. Despite his brief stint, the left-handed batter managed to accumulate 32 runs off just 16 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 200, including two sixes and three boundaries.
Hailing from Punjab, the 27-year-old cricketer had previously showcased his prowess by smashing 40 runs off 31 balls in his BBL debut against Perth Scorchers. Chaudhary also contributed with the ball, albeit for a solitary over that yielded five runs but remained wicketless.
Similar to Unmukt Chand, Nikhil Chaudhary stands out among the limited pool of Indian cricketers to have graced the Australian T20 league. The versatile player transitioned to Brisbane following his participation in 14 matches, including two List-A games, for Punjab.
His association with Punjab dates back to 2019, marking his last appearance for the team before being recognized and recruited by Hobart Hurricanes for the ongoing BBL season.

Under the guidelines of the BCCI, Indian cricketers are restricted from participating in overseas leagues until they retire from Indian cricket and complete a mandatory one-year cooling-off period.
