India secured a commanding victory against Sri Lanka Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group stage on Wednesday, driven by half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, followed by a disastrous collapse from the Sri Lankan top order.
The turning point came early, thanks to substitute fielder Radha Yadav, who made a stunning catch on just the second ball of the innings, giving India a spectacular breakthrough.
Facing Renuka Singh Thakur, Vishmi Gunaratne attempted an aggressive start by charging down the pitch and hitting the ball straight.
However, she ended up with a leading edge that appeared to be sailing over cover. Radha, stationed at point, sprinted after the ball and, just as it seemed out of reach, launched herself forward to catch it with her left hand.
The Indian team erupted in celebration, rushing to congratulate Radha, while the coaching staff applauded her remarkable effort.
