Kolkata Knight Riders have made a comeback of sorts in the second phase of IPL 2021 at UAE. They registered their second consecutive victory since the resumption of the tournament tonight against Mumbai Indians. Their first victory came in the last match against Royals Challengers Bangalore in which they totally dominated against Virat Kohli and his men.
In the RCB match, KKR displayed their bowling excellence and in the match against Mumbai Indians, they showed that their batting lineup is equally powerful and capable. It would be wrong to say that they are ‘powerful’ as the same lineup had played in the first phase as well but that time, the results were not so desirable. In fact in the India leg of IPL, KKR’s batting performance was one of the worst in the entire tournament.
However, with the addition of debutant Venkatesh Iyer in the team and with the change in destination, the Knights have seemingly gotten a new fervour and seem to be unstoppable at this point.
Chasing 155 runs against Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders never seemed to have been in trouble. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer gave them a tremendous start. After the departure of Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi came in and along with Venkatesh Iyer, took care of the innings. Both the players won hearts but a specific shot by Rahul Tripathi has made the headlines the most due to its peculiarity.
Facing MI’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul Tripathi was as confident as one can be. On one special occasion, while playing a delivery that was too wide away from him, he failed to make proper connection and the ball went straight up. But it turned out to be covering the distance as well – just by whiskers. In Fact the umpires had to check whether it was a six or not as the ball touched the inside of the boundary line. It was later ruled to be a six.
