In Match 10 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) surprised many by making a bold move against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
They brought in Anmolpreet Singh, formerly of the Mumbai Indians, to open the innings in place of Abhishek Sharma, a talented all-rounder.
Despite initial skepticism, Anmolpreet proved his worth by batting solidly on a slow and low Ekana track. He scored a well-made 31 off 26 balls, hitting three fours and one six before being dismissed leg-before by Krunal Pandya. However, if not for Rahul Tripathi’s influence, Anmolpreet would have been out earlier.
In the sixth over, bowled by Yash Thakur, Anmolpreet tried to pull a good length delivery that nipped back in and hit his pad. The on-field umpire quickly raised his finger, and Anmolpreet was not confident enough to challenge the decision.
But Tripathi convinced him to take the review, and the replay showed that the ball would have missed the wickets by a good margin. The decision was overturned, and Tripathi was praised on social media for his quick thinking. Despite the reprieve, Anmolpreet failed to convert his start into a big score.
