England made a strong comeback from a difficult start against South Africa in the final ODI on Wednesday, trying to prevent a series sweep. Despite being 14/3, the team rallied to reach 346/7, powered by 100s from Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan.
Their bowlers continued the momentum with impressive new ball play and regular wicket-taking, putting pressure on South Africa during their run chase. Jofra Archer returned and took three crucial wickets, and Adil Rashid, despite being expensive, contributed two important wickets to the team’s cause. At the time of writing, South Africa needed 70 from 64 balls with four wickets remaining.
In the 19th over, Adil Rashid bowled over the wicket to Reeza Hendricks, who had already reached 50 runs. On the second ball, Rashid delivered a low, full delivery down the legside from close to the stumps. Reeza appeared to move forward but quickly returned to his stance in confusion.
The ball pitched, trapping him at the crease, but luck was on his side as the ball didn’t spin much. However, that luck was short-lived, as the ball hit the inside of his thigh and forced his legs apart, allowing the ball to sneak through the smallest of gaps and bowl him between the legs in a humiliating fashion.
