WATCH : RCB chose not to appeal after Narine’s casual hit wicket

Winning his first toss as Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Rajat Patidar chose to field first against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Despite a shaky start in the opening over, Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine guided KKR to a solid 60/1 in the powerplay. Eleven balls later, a bizarre incident took center stage as the visitors missed an opportunity to break the partnership despite a clear chance.

In the eighth over, Narine attempted to hack a bumper on the fourth ball, but something unexpected happened. The bails lit up, and Tim David, along with other RCB players, asked Jitesh Sharma, the keeper, about the incident.

However, they weren’t sure whether Narine’s bat had hit the stumps, causing the bails to fall. Narine’s failed slog led to a hit wicket, which went unnoticed, sparking a buzz on social media.

According to MCC Laws, the striker is out hit wicket if their bat or person breaks the wicket while the ball is in play, either in the course of preparing to receive or receiving a delivery, or immediately after playing at the ball, or in the process of setting off for the first run, or when guarding the wicket within the provisions of Law 34.3.
