WATCH : Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping blunder costs LSG’s one-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals

It wasn’t the debut Rishabh Pant had hoped for in Vizag on Monday. In his first match for Lucknow Super Giants, where he took on the captaincy, Pant was dismissed for a six-ball duck and made a couple of errors in his captaincy.

However, it was a costly wicketkeeping blunder that became the focal point of LSG’s narrow one-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals.

Ashutosh Sharma’s heroics brought Delhi down to needing just a run-a-ball in the final over. Lucknow still had a chance, with No. 11 Mohit Sharma on strike to begin the 20th over.

Shahbaz Ahmed, the spinner, delivered a beautifully tossed-up ball on a good length that landed on middle as Mohit looked to drive it through the on-side, stepping down the track in the process. But the ball turned sharply, leaving Mohit well outside the crease.

This gave Pant the perfect opportunity to effect the stumping and seal the final wicket. However, he missed the chance. The Lucknow captain chose to review the decision with DRS, but it was quickly turned down as the ball had spun too much and missed the off stump.

Pant could hardly believe it as he watched the replay on the screen, likely regretting the missed opportunity to stump Mohit and close out the match.
