Mitchell Marsh made a stunning start to IPL 2025, smashing his very first ball of the campaign for a six and continuing his explosive run to bring up a 21-ball half-century. This came after Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to field, asking Lucknow Super Giants to bat first in the season opener between the two teams.
Marsh’s fireworks were met with an equally aggressive response from Nicholas Pooran, who entered in the fifth over and sent his second delivery to the boundary. However, Pooran saved his best for after the powerplay.
Despite his risk-taking approach, Pooran eventually offered a chance to Delhi, but in a comical twist, the hosts not only failed to capitalize on the opportunity but also embarrassed themselves in the process.
Axar Patel opted to continue with Vipraj Nigam even after the fielding restrictions were lifted. After being hit for seven runs off the first two balls of the seventh over, Nigam found himself facing Pooran. The West Indian wasted no time, launching a standard legbreak for six before targeting the googly with the same intent, resulting in another maximum.
However, the young leg-spinner stuck to his guns, delivering another wrong’un with more flight. This time, Pooran misjudged it in the air, attempting to heave it over cover but instead slicing a thick outside edge.
The ball floated to Sameer Rizvi at short backward point, who was well-positioned to take the catch. In a bizarre turn of events, Rizvi first failed to hold onto the ball as it slipped through his fingers, and then, attempting a run-out, threw the ball at the non-striker’s end—only to accidentally strike Marsh on the back.

Marsh, clearly in pain, left the LSG camp on edge, given his injury history, but fortunately for both him and Rizvi, the Australian was able to continue. The chaos quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, with fans having a field day over the comedic mishap.
