Following a tumultuous powerplay marked by India’s three dropped catches, the Men in Blue staged a remarkable comeback at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday. With a flurry of wickets, they put Nepal on the defensive.
Shardul Thakur struck first, but it was Ravindra Jadeja’s left-arm spin that caused havoc with three rapid dismissals. Notably, one of these dismissals owed thanks to their captain, Rohit Sharma, who amusingly emphasized his involvement in the process.
Jadeja found himself in a duel with the opposition’s captain, Rohit Paudel. He delivered a slightly outside-the-line back-of-a-length ball. Paudel aimed to drive it through the covers but ended up with a thick outside edge, sending the ball flying towards the slip cordon. Rohit Sharma, positioned at first slip, displayed swift reflexes as he dropped to one knee and secured the ball by his thigh, sending Paudel back to the pavilion.
The humorous part unfolded when, immediately after completing the catch, India’s skipper rushed towards Jadeja, exclaiming, “I told you so,” and then evidently elaborating on how his plan had been destined to succeed.
