WATCH : Rohit Sharma’s angry outburst at broadcasters during DRS replay

On Saturday, Rohit Sharma and his team recorded a commanding victory over Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Nagpur, winning by an innings and 132 runs. This victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the four-Test series. In the first innings, India’s bowling attack dismissed Australia for a total of 177 runs.

India then amassed 400 runs in their first innings, with Rohit hitting his 9th Test century and half-centuries from all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. In the second innings, lead spinner R Ashwin took five wickets as Australia, led by Pat Cummins, were dismissed for only 91 runs.

Australia was struggling with a score of 52/4 at 17.1 overs, and on the next delivery, Ashwin made an LBW appeal against Peter Handscomb. However, the umpire’s decision was not out, and India decided to request a review. During the DRS, the cameras captured Rohit’s reaction, causing frustration for the Indian captain.

In a moment of anger, Rohit appeared to direct the broadcasters to show the replay of the LBW decision reviewed, rather than his face. This incident caused a video of Rohit’s bewildering and angry reaction to go viral on social media.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who made a return to international cricket following a knee injury, was named Player of the Match. He had a spectacular all-around performance, taking seven wickets in the match and scoring a determined half-century.

During India’s first innings, the hosts were in a precarious position at 240/7, but Jadeja and Axar combined for an 88-run partnership for the eighth wicket. This crucial partnership gave India a substantial lead, which was further expanded by Axar while batting with tail-enders Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. India’s 223-run lead in the first innings proved to be too much for Australia to overcome.

During Australia’s second innings, Vice-Captain Steven Smith remained not out with 25 runs, becoming the leading run-scorer for the visitors. Along with Ashwin’s five wickets, Shami and Jadeja each claimed two wickets, while Axar took down one batter.
