India was too powerful for Australia, who had a brilliant run led by Pat Cummins, but their success was short-lived as they arrived in Nagpur. The visitors suffered a huge defeat against the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, and now trail 1-0 in the four-match series. Thanks to outstanding all-around performances, Ravindra Jadeja was named the Player of the Match.
After resuming play at 321/7, India was boosted by late contributions from Mohammed Shami (37) and Axar Patel (84), ultimately closing the first innings on 400.
This gave them a lead of 223 runs, making it seem like Australia had a difficult task ahead of them to remain competitive in the match. However, they failed to live up to their expectations and crumbled to 91 all out.
Ravindra Jadeja had a five-wicket haul in the first innings, but it was Ravichandran Ashwin who stole the show in the second, taking 5/37. Steven Smith was the top scorer for Australia, finishing with 25 not out, while the rest of the team struggled to make an impact on the spin-friendly Nagpur pitch.
The two sides will next play at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the second Test match.
